Two incidents in a single night keep the women of the KK15 unit on high alert: In Ellen’s neighborhood, a man wipes out his family and then shoots himself—out of jealousy, as later emerges. In the red-light district, a pub owner is blown up along with his establishment; his friend and partner, Tomas Rautenberg, narrowly escapes the attack. He is convinced that the perpetrator could only be Robert Seelig, a notorious local underworld figure and drug dealer. Rautenberg, who is himself entangled in cocaine dealings with Seelig, agrees to cooperate with the police as a key witness. The family tragedy has shaken Ellen far more deeply than she is willing to admit, prompting her boss, Jensen, to remove her from the case. However, when he assigns her to protect the key witness instead, disaster strikes. Ellen recognizes the man as a former classmate. Alone with Rautenberg, and still reeling from her recent trauma, the detective loses her professional detachment; seeking solace, she begins an affair with him. But her lapse in judgment has fatal consequences: she shoots a colleague, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
